for any body that cares. i did pretty much as suggested here. welder maybe a little hotter than your better judgement dictates, then build up the weld until you can weld a nut to it, or grab it with the best pair of vise grips you have. took me about an hour with 3 broken bolts. now i have my 5.3 hanging and the 6.0 ready to drop in. thanks again guys.
