With a possible 6.0L and turbo on the way.....is my tranny gonna hold up?

 

I would have to say It wont hold up very long at all. It all depends on how much you build up the motor and what boost you plan on running. A stock 6.0 with mild boost is still going to kill a 60E fairly quickly. Now if you build up the 60E it will last a little longer. I would say you would be better off to put in a 80E and remove any doubt. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how much power you plan to push. Parish8 is the expert on this topic I would say. Maybe he will put in his .02

 

Nope, wont last long once you start pushing 450rwhp+

I'm actually failry suprised mine last the 4mo it did once I got the intercooler and tuning done. Even now it still drives but turn up the boost to over 500rwhp and it slips alot

Better factor in a 4L80E before you do the turbo. I'd do the 6.0L and tranny first then get the turbo. This way you won't have unexpected downtime.

If you plan on just running low boost and rigth around 400rwhp it may last you ahwile depending on how much you race it, how it was maintaned, how you control heat and if you have a decent tranny, remember just because 2 trannys wear the same model # doesn't mean there isn't a weak link in one of them somewhere.

 

The 60E is not going to hold up very long. There is a limited amount of power that it can hold and you will exceed that once you put the 6.0 block and the turbo. In my oppinion you should just throw a built 80E in there so you wont have to worry about anything messing up on you.

 

Not long mine screwed up with only 255 rwhp. The 2-4 band was toast

 

Because it was stock. If you build up the motor why do you think that you can leave the trans stock? A 60e can sustain a prety good amount of power if built properly, not just throwing parts at it.

 

They still break.... I've had 5 units break on me not counting my truck. 4 of those were "built" units. Why take the chance?

Even FLP recomends against using a 60E in a high HP truck

 

A built 60E can handle alot of power in a light car. However us truck guys have somthing going against us Weight. When you combine the weight of our trucks with a decent amount of horsepower, this translates to a unhappy tranny. I fryed the 2-4 clutch pack in my 03 Sierra with bolt ons. No nitrous or FI. Thats when I got rid of it.

 

if you are wanting hp and want it to last more than 6 months. do not use a 60e/

 

I am feeling a lot of slop when I first start to accelerate from a stop, im pretty sure its in the tranny cuz with one wheel lifted off the ground I don't feel much slop in the rearend....its in a 1500 with the 5.3L with 83,000 miles...
