How come no one talks about the TR CheaTR cam?
Why isn't this a more popular cam? Patrick G made 395 rwhp on stock manifolds! I'm thinking why should I waste $500 on headers when this cam adds 35-40 rwhp??? The best part about this cam I've read is that it retains stock idle, driving manners, etc. It should be even more docile in a 6.0. That thing pulls all the way to 6800 too!
These are the mods before the cam: "MTI lid, ported throttle body, LS6 intake, ASP UD pulley, 160 degree stat, SLP Dual/Dual catback, and HP Tuners tweaks"
those mods yielded 335 rwhp and 339 rwtq
Added the cheaTR cam and AFR 205cc heads it made 395 rwhp and 376 rwtq That's a gain of 60rwhp
I've been going back and forth between mods, I was set on OBX headers about 2 hours ago and I thought my first cam would be a TR224, but these gains from a cheatr cam while allowing me to retain my stock exhaust and emissions crap is astounding to me!

what kinda truck was this on.. it also got new heads with the cam so that is the gain from both mods. also why not just go with the headers if you are upgrading the cam you will be flowing more air in and out so headers will just increase the performance any way

I was looking at going this route one time but I just wasn't happy with the torque that it was lacking. If you start looking at the graph, you'll see it really is only noticably stronger than stock from 4K RPM on up. You do 5-10% of your driving up there. Other than exhaust what other concerns do you have? Smooth idle? gas mileage? I think the CheaTR would be like driving a 2 stroke dirtbike engine in a truck.

Pat G said the cam will add 35-40 rwhp on its own, thru stock manifolds (were talking LS1 and ls1 manifolds, which are probably a little better than what we got).
Anyways, I decided to go against the cam and went ahead and ordered OBX headers. The cam would have cost me a pretty penny - $719 for the cam/springs/pushrods (it requires double springs), $150 for a ported oil pump, $250 for 8.1L injectors, $40 for LS2 timing chain, and $400 for the install.

The cheatr cam wasn't designed with trucks in mind. lol
It was designed so that it could be installed in your stock LS1 and make mustangs guys cry and you say your car is stock because it sounds stock. If you put a cam in an LSx then it will def sound like a cammed car. Not so with the cheatr. However is it one of the best bang for the buck cams on the market.
Personally with a truck (it's my plan as well) I'd go with a 220ish cam with a low LSA. Say in the 114 range. Why cam if you don't get the thumpy cam sound? eh?
