Default HOMEMADE Air Box Lid Pics Part-2 (56k suffer)

Heres an update on the progress so far. I have almost finished the Lid. I still need to paint it, but I decided to mock up the intake tube, becuase it just arrived in the mail. Things seem to line up pretty good, considering this was all eye-ball, mocked up.

I do have one question you will see in the pics that the MAF has been rotated about 90* to clear the hood. Will it still function properly?

here are the pics. I still need to weld up the tube, that is why there is tape holding the two pieces together.

Painted Lid Pics.

as far as I know from experience the MAF will still work ok.

nice work man

Naw the tube is steel, cause I only have a Mig welder. I wish I had a Tig.

Efans will be coming as soon as I get a new Laptop and Hp Tuners, hopefully a gift to myself for Christmas.

I made the lid out of fiberglass. I made a mold out of some pictures I found of a UPD lid. here is the link to the first part.

sounds like you'll have a nice x-mas

if you wanna tig it you can get a good little 220v tig machine from harbor freight that'll do the job. you can weld up to 5/8" with their 220v machine and it's only a few bills.we use one in the shop for small work. carbon steel tig is pretty damn easy IMO. if you can make a nice lookin small bead with your mig just go ahead and mig it and grind it down. it'd be pretty badass if you got the intake tube powdercoated for appearance and also the heat dissapation. ceramic coat would be really nice

lemme know when you get hptuners, I use it and I love it.

btw, here's the link for that tig machine

220 bux aint bad man. it's worth learning how to tig weld if you wanna do real nice clean stainless/aluminum work. you can't really do aluminum with that machine unless you get a tri-mix with a good amount of helium since the machine isn't high-freq.

lemme know how everything goes, I work in a fab shop and that's all I do is design/engineer CO2 skids and control boxes. and I do fab work on em too.

good luck

That is pretty cheap, I paid like twice that for my mig. So can you weld alumiun with that with the right gas mix? for $220 it would be worth it!

I thought about cermanic coating the tube but I did not want to pay for it. So I wrapped it in header wrap then put fiberglass resin on top and smoothed it out.

I think this way should keep the heat out.

thanks, but patience it one thing I am in short supply. This whole project would have been looking alot better if I was not in a rush to try and complete. Not to mention the skin missing from my fingers due to power tools and sand paper.

In the meantime you're probably gonna want to trim the shroud back a little bit, as the intake tube will definitely contact the shroud as the engine torques. I had to trim mine when I used to have a K&N FIPK and the factory clutch fan.

Looks awesome BTW, keep up the good work!
