Default Home made air intake

I am thinking about making a air intake out of a K&N filter, some industrial hose and some aluminim bent to isolate it from the engine compartment heat. Anyone see cons to doing this? The $200+ bucks for a little bit of piping and a K&N type filter has me thinking.

I made my own for just pennies. If you have e-fans there is ALOT more room.

This is a pic I had around that shows the intake..

i ordered all my stuff to make my own tube from here http://shop.airflowonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv

i also purchased a ebay filter kit that has a heat shield and filter. i could have made one for cheap but it was just easier for me to buy this one for 30 bucks.
