Default Holy Sh*t the knock was loud this morning!!

Did the usual, started the truck to let it warm up before i go to work. Sounded fine for about 10-15 seconds than holy ****, it started knocking/banging real bad for about 10-15 seconds then it faded away. I just knew it was going to lock up on me.The noise faded away shortly. I think my problem is a rod knocking and not piton slap. I'll know Saturday when I drop the pan again. Fingers are crossed that it's just a loose or stretched rod bolt and hoping if so that the crank and all are ok. If I'm extrmely lucky I may be able to just replace the rod bolts.
Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm usually not that lucky.

Good luck ranwalk.
I haven't heard of many lower end problems with these motors, but your making more torque than most.

I'd replace rod bearings off any bolts you pull too.

On the up side ... I had a truck with a rod knocking, that ran for a while that way. It shouldn't lock up, it will just slinge one through the block if anything, not to mention really buger up your crank.

If it was a rod, it wouldn't go away would it? I still think it is a lifter that is having trouble pumping up. When I put my cam in, I thought my stuff was going to blow up it sounded so bad till the lifters finally primed back up. I still have one on the pass side that takes longer than the rest upon startup.

Slinging a rod through the block is an upside???

If it is a rod and can be saved, where is the best place to get ARP rod bolts from??
