Default Here's my new custom CAI

I did a search on here a while ago for "homemade intake" and got some good ideas on how to do a nice intake myself. The parts fit together surprisingly well and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to do a little mild fabrication. The trickiest part was re-routing the upper radiator hose, which requires cutting the neck on the water pump some. My main issue with the name brand kits was excessive cost and I don't think any of their systems are made for a truck without a fan shroud. The airbox was purchased on eBay, the middle pipe and elbow is PVC and the rubber elbow at the TB is from Airflow Systems.

Yes, that's correct. It was about $25 shipped.

what did you do to reroute the coolant line, the big one that goes into the t-stat on the top center of the engine is touchin my K&N tube tranfering heat to it, I was thinking some heat shield tape would be a good bandaid, but I really wana just move it some.

The lower radiator hose is the one that goes to the thermostat so I wouldn't think that one would be getting in your way. It was the upper hose that goes from the water pump to the radiator that was the problem for me. I cut down the pipe out of the water pump at least 3 inches then I turned the hose around backwards and cut some off of it and it still touches the intake elbow a little. So I got a piece of neoprene, from a can coozy, and attached it with zip ties to keep heat transfer to a minimum. It worked out pretty well and it should help in your situation also.

It's thinwall. The bigger stuff's outside diameter would not fit well with the rubber pieces.
