Default Help! Overheating....

My truck is overheating after being still in the 100*+ temps here in Louisiana in 5:00 stop and go traffic. At nighttime, I haven't had a problem. I thought it was my electric fans, since one of my motors was broke for the second year. My truck was fine last year, even with only one motor and the a/c on.

One thing I have noticed though. My oil pressure guage drops to just under 40psi, like probably 38-39. Then my a/c starts warming up. I have to get up to 50+ mph for a few minutes for it to start going down. If I get stuck in traffic it goes back up. It seems like once it hits 210* it goes the big mark in between 210-260* really quick and seems to hang around there until I get back up to speed.

I've checked the coolant level, oil level and made sure the fans were on. What really stumps me is when the oil pressure drops.

Any ideas on what it can be? I'm gonna be pulling this 5.3 in the middle of October and putting in the 383. So, I really don't want to put too much money into fixing this problem. It has 96,xxx miles on it.

maybe when the engine gets hotter and everything, the oil ends up getting hotter and therefore thinner maybe causing a loss in pressure because the oil isnt as thick?

The hotter my engine runs the lower the oil pressure goes. Seems like more and more people are having issues with e-fans and overheating.......

As mentioned above, the oil pressure dropping is from the oil getting thinner from running hotter. I'd be fixing the broken fan first then rechecking everything...not sure about where you live, but summer here seems to have been considerably hotter than last year. Maybe the 1 fan could handle the weather last year but not this year...is it also possible that the 1 fan is getting older and not spinning as quickly as it used to?

....seems like there's alot of overheating problems this year...so far, I've been cool as a cucumber (knock on wood). Think I'm gonna install some manual toggle switches for my efans just in case though....

I've got dual 12" e-fans (I know, should've gone with 16"ers). My truck overheats to 230* while sitting idle at long traffic lights. Oil seemed too thin for 5W-30 conventional oil when I checked it yesterday. Gonna put some seafoam in the crankcase and fuel tank, cuz I've only run the truck 600 miles since the 5.3 install. Wanna run about a 100 more, drain, then fill with conventional + STP oil treatment. I cna post up any results next week (providing I remember).

if you put seofoam in your crankcase its going to make your oil even thinner. FYI, most people put the seafoam in then drive around a little but then change the oil, 100 miles should be alright i suppose

You need to get your second fan fixed.I have had my 05 electric fans in for 2 years with no problems,so for those of you who think e-fans are the problem, their not.I live in Louisiana also near New Orleans.I get stuck in traffic everyday with all the contractors here working after hurricane.I tow my work trailer with a 2600 converter also.My temps stay at 180,if they start to get close to 210 second fan kicks in and temps go back to 180.My tranny temps stay at 165.So if your having problems it is not because the fans can't handle them.

honestly man, just cuz things work for your truck doenst mean it will be the exactl same situation for others. some trucks handle mods differently. someone will get 50hp from something and another person will get 35. your fans may not be a problem but someone elses might. plus you have the 05 fans so that means you have the 34" radiator right? everyone else here with ls1 fans have the 27" or whatever it is core. things are just different

I forgot to mention that I got the other fan fixed. Both fans work. I also got the nelson fan harness that is hooked up to a toogle switch instead of the pcm.

When I turn the toggle on, both fans come on low. When I turn the a/c on, the passenger side fan comes on high while the other is still on low. If I don't turn the toggle on and turn the a/c on just the passenger side fan comes on high and the other doesn't turn at all.

If I was to overnite my pcm to futral and pay to have the pcm turned on and hook up the wire to the pcm, would this turn both fans on high when it gets hot with the nelson fan harness? Would this solve my problem? What about a bigger radiator? Could I still run the same fans? This is driving me crazy!
