2/15.5=12.9% increase in mpg.
For the sake of argument, lets say each vehicle is driven an equal amount.
this would be a 13.85% average increase. (you math guys are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong here)
Theoretically, shouldn't that mean a reduction of $13.85 for every $100
dollars spent at the pump?

At 15.5 avg MPG and annual driving 12,000 miles a year = 774 gal/yr
x $2.12 nat avg fuel per gal = $1,641.29 annual fuel cost
x 13.85% (2 MPG savings) = $227.32 annual fuel savings
I think you'll have to spend around $1500 or more (exhaust, intake, efans & custom tune) to get a 2 MPG increase which is possible but not guaranteed by any means. We can then derive the average person will have to drive 6.6 years or 79,183 miles before they actually save any money on gas. Ok, you're right. I was way off.

It's a good thing you took the #'s out another step. I have to agree with you that
a return on the $$ $pent on mods will take a good long time to pay off.
However, the $1500 mark is more than I'm ready to toss into all of this. Like most
cheap-sum-beaches, I wanna get out of this for as little as I can.
But even if it does take a while to make the $ back, let's not forget the all-important bragging rights to the dipsticks at work when I tell them what kind of mileage I'm getting.
Besides, since we obligated ourselves on the house here recently, keeping these vehicles another 6.6 years is a very real possibility.

If you have 4.10's in either of the vehicles and you spend a lot of time on the freeway, consider swapping out gears for 3.73's if you average 70-75 mph (or even 3.42's if you drive 80+ mph). I lost 2-4 mpg going from 3.73's to 4.10's, so going in the opposite direction would gain.

heres the BEST AND CHEAPEST mods to increase your gas milage!!!!
the major part of it is to change your driving habits. about 1900 rpm seems to be the sweet spot on these 5.3's. when your going from a stop light make sure the gear shifts are before 2,000 and when on the freeway set the cruise at about 1900 rpm. thats about 70mph on my 373's.
clean air filter...duh
clean fuel filter
properly inflated tires
dont drive around with the windows down and AC on(im horible about that)
that combo works for me. i can get around 23 mpg freeway and around 17-18 city when i try. i normally get alot worse though cuz i like to have fun
also try running a fuel system cleaner through. chevron with techron or sea foam are what i would use. sea foam is cheaper and probably works better. just pour in a bottle at about 1/4 tank and drive it till its empty. if its a high milage truck get the converters checked.
my 2 cents
