Help me pick a cam- Lq4 build
I know there have been many of these threads, but everyone has different answers and ideas. I need some help deciding on an appropriate cam.
Set up-1999 4x4 RCSB. 4l80e. 28-29" tire. 3.73 gears
I want something to make some good power. It wont be a daily. Trying to get some 243 heads or something similar. Wanting to keep it NA for now, hopefully some FI down the road.
How big is too big? I want a good lope, and something to spin high. I dont want it to be a huge pain to drive as I will drive it quite often, but mainly just around town, to and from work (2 miles) etc.
Will have longtubes with cut out and 22" magnaflow muffler. E-fans, CAI. Not sure on intake and TB yet. Im open to suggestions on that as well.
Anything else that would help deciding, just let me know and ill try to fill it in. Thanks guys.

you want a 110-112 lsa it sounds like
you want a wildish cam due to the lighter weight of the RCSB.. with the raised compression from the 243 heads... like you said not much daily... but still driveable.
you will need a 3600 stall ++ converter
upper 22- on the intake... up through mid 23- on the intake...
so something like a 232/238 .610/.610 on a 110 or 112lsa...
I mean just pick your posion, but your going to get lots of opinions..
contact PAT G and have him spec you a cam for an additional 20$ = I dont spec cams. but from what I gather on here, I can get you close... lol
still need to know engine size etc.

I would talk to one of the guys who can custom spec a cam for you, like Martin Smallwood from tick performance. I dunno if you're on ls1 tech but I'd hop on there and look for 243 heads, they go quickly but are a lot more frequently found on there it seems then here. Just beware of scammers

I would look into something like this....
Using EPS lobes
222/226 .596/.598
114 LSA if you plan on FI down the road or 112 if you go with the 243 heads, because you will not want to run FI with them. You can but I wouldn't recommend it...
The intake centerline you go with will depend on what static compression you are at, this is to maintain optimal dynamic compression.

Its just going to be a low mileage Lq4, stock bottom end, heads, cam, injectors, fuel pump and whatever else. Down the road I can see adding a procharger or TVS, but thats a ways out. Id swap cams at that point.
speaking of that, would 60# injectors be enough? What intake fuel pump is the hot item right now? I have to replace my fuel lines anyway due to the filter being rusted on, so that would be a good time to add a pump.

You beat me to the punch. FI and NA are very differetn beasts. You will have the best luck swapping to a procharger if you try to add something. They like a looser converter. Otherwise building big power NA and big power with a maggie are very different things.
I'd grab a Yank SS3600 and a cam like this: FTI LSX StreetSweeper-HT Camshaft - FlowTech Induction . When you go FI think about adding about 6* more split (maybe take a little from the intake while adding to exhaust (example 224/234 on a 115) while widening out the LSA to a 115 or so and you're golden. Of course there is a hell of a lot more that goes into a cam than simply its duration at .050, but that's a good starting point.

I figured something like a 3600 would be a good bet. Its not a DD, but i will drive it quite a bit April-October.
Alright so something like that cam (high 220s to mid 230s), 3600 stall, ls7 lifters and trays, ls2 timing chain (maybe)
Just need to figure out these..feel free to fill them in haha..I dont want to spend a fortune, but id rather have something quality and have faith in it.
Injectors-
Fuel pump-
Springs-Dual, not sure what kind
Pushrods-7.4" good with 243 heads? What thickness headgasket?
Intake(probably stock to begin, but need ideas)-NNBS maybe?
Throttle Body(also probably stock to begin but need ideas)-
Tru-cool 40k
