Get some LS6 heads from Patriot ($450) and hook it to a 4l80e and you'll be as good or better off than any more recent LQ4.

+1 that's the build date. But hey, let me ask you this. Why not just pick up a cheap 5.3L crank and throw the one in the garbage that you have? The block rods and pistons are all good, just re ring it, new bearings and hell I'd even use the iron heads. Iron heads store more heat and heat is energy. I'd port the iron heads and use those instead of aluminum. An iron headed 9.5:1 comp headed engine is similar to a 10.5:1 comp aluminum headed engine for energy. IMO aluminum has its disadvantages (weak, thin, expensive) Iron can be ported more heavily (thicker casting), be bought cheaper, stronger, etc. I say keep it, freshen it up, port the heads and put a baby to medium camshaft in it. You'd have a nice low mileage 6L on a budget and if anyone dogs the iron heads tell them to **** up a rope.
