Default help me build my 5.3

i want to build my 08 5.3 up but i need some opinions from those who have been there and know what will be good.

CAM: i want as much cam as i can use w/o sacrificing good drivability. i here people go back and forth about whats good for this or that my question is why go with a symetrical cam like the tsp 224R vs one has dif. duration/lift like say 222/226 .581/.586 or vice versa.... either way im wanting something on a 112 lsa.

HEADS: the gen IV 5.3's already come with 243's so i think i'll stick with them and have em ported and polished and possibly milled(please give opinions on why i should or shouldnt mill them)

STALL: i'm thinking something like a 3000-3200 rpm stall since my truck is my DD. i've been told to stay away from tci so what do the guys on here recommend

N2O: i think i would like something like 100 shot and i want the safest setup i can go with. im thinking about a plate kit but im open to sugestions. i know i need a safety switch, heater, and window switch.

TRANNY: what should i do to beef up the tranny and remember the key word DD!.

HEADERS: simple... dynatechs or kooks(yes they're makin em)

ok guys lets hear it

doesn't nitrous like reverse split cams? like a 226/222?

either way, sounds like you have a good set up planned there.

Split duration cams and how much split is a function of cylinder head flow ......if the intake to exhaust ratio flow is close then a single pattern cam is pbly the best but if the ratio is like 60% then a good 10* degree split is close if 75% then something like 5-8split ........so if you truly going to get headwork done then pick your cam AFTER they are flowed ........symetrical / asymetrical is the lobe design totaly different from single / dual pattern ......always pick your cam after you select your heads and compression ...... and yes big shot of Nitrous changes the thinking

For the tranny I'd probably look into a built 4l80e. My buddy just put a built 4l60e behind his 5.3 with 360 hp and he is already having trouble. These trannys are junk. But with yours being so new I would just put a shift kit and stall on it. You'll probably get a lot of life out of it since its only a year old. The cam in my sig is a little on the small side. It starts pullin at 4,000 but peaks at 6,100. I probably should have gone bigger. But the 112 lsa really sounds nasty. I got my pacesetter lts (non-coated) online for 287, ory was an extra $130 ish. Keep an eye on craigslist also, you can really save a buck. My eaton posi had 1,000 miles on it and I got it for $200.

Your confused on the aysmetrical / sysmetrical thats lobe design and for what your doing leave that up to the cam company as they dont post that info under normal circ

Single pattern /dual pattern or split is the thing to look for when you select a cam .based on your head... now just get advice based on that head I,m no expert on these heads but have to think they have a decent flow ratio so probably a spread in the 5-6* is lots but again the guys who do these motors will / should have that experience and for street vehicle with power brakes etetc 112 LSA sounds about right Now if that head has extremely good exhaust flow and it might then a single pattern cam is the one to use ......this is all a generality ...but many pick a cam and then heads and compression and thats *** backwards a well selected cam with your stock head and compression will be fine ......if you really want to get a cam that is selected by someone who does this for aliving call Chris@ Staub Technologies or google for his reputation etcetc for a cam tell him what you have and what you want to do he will spec a cam for you and sell you one ...yes the cost will be a little more than a discount store off the shelf cam but if you serious thats the way to go IMO .you have a nice new truck .do it right the first time ..if you want his contact info let me know but should not be hard to find on the net
