Default Help getting started... I got a Pair of 243s I want to install on a 5.3

Got some questions on installing some ls6 heads on my 03 Silverado Z71 5.3. The questions is I know they will fit but I've read some threads that suggest milling down the ls6 heads in order to not lose compression on a 5.3 engine, but exactly how much milling is needed. I am also about to install a VHP "trucker" cam on this truck, will I have any problems with the pistons clearing the heads after the milling?

I would really appreciate any feedback, thanks!

im doing the same thing you are and im having them milled .35 which is what i have been seeing alot of people do here.i am also going with the ls6 intake as well so it should work out well for me.i had my 243 heads ported and the ls6 intake and tb ported as well.i seen that the new lsr 269 cam is a great choice for high end power which is what is needed in these larger trucks.good luck

I would go .040 to .045, cams love compression, even the smallest of cams will appreciate it...

Default Thanks!

Thank you all for the info., now I have an idea of how much milling can be done to the 243s. anywhere from .35 to .45 depending on what compression I'm shooting for.

The Triple "X" should work OK on your truck but supporting mods would make it really come alive. Don't expect much bottom end from it. It's a pretty big cam for a 5.3 so a stall of at least 3000 rpm's would be in order. Also, these .551 lift cams are ground to go with the 1.8 roller rockers and springs he sells but would work fine with stock valvetrain. Want to see some real power? Add some forced induction and have some real fun!

Yea I would like to install a supercharger some time in the near future, but what I want is to swap my 5.3 for a 6.0 or 6.2. For now I'm just looking for some performance out of this 5.3. I already rebuilt my trans with the Monster in a box kit from Monster Trans., plus I installed a 3000-3200 stall from Circle D. Now I'm waiting for the 243s to be done with P&P and milling. I'm also going with some LT headers, e-fans, magnaflow X-pipe, Pac .600 valve springs, manley pushrods, and a dyno tune. How much did u pay for the 1.8 rockers?
