Default Hellppp Computer Fried

Hey guys i need all you help to come up with a plan. I installed a superchip computer on my truck and it fried the whole system because they failed to tell me you have to take a out fuses. On the sheet when it tells you to take out the fuses it says for 03-04 vehicles equiped with onstar ONLY!!! So i went over that section, it freid the computer called superchips they say you have to take the info fuse out not stated in the instructions. Had it towed to chevy yesturday and they say the computer is gone and its going to cost 1k to fix it. DO any of you guys know where to get another computer or a good lawyer!!!

Damn dude that sucks... I don't know about superchips but with HPP3 I thought leaving the fuzes in could cause a faulty download and not FRY the computer... Are you sure it's actually fried? I wouldn't take the dealerships word for it... I know Hypertech can reflash the comptuer for you if it gets messed up on download... you just have to send it to them... Maybe superchips can do that for you? Worst case don't pay the $1000 to the dealership... you can pick up computers on the internet for MUCH cheaper... don't know exactly but I'd guess around $100...

What is the part number for the programmer? Do you remember which fuses you are suppose to take out? I have a superchips and my truck is onstar ready and I haven't taken any fuses out for any time that I have used the programmer. I called superchips and asked them about taking out fuses and they told me that if the truck has onstar to take out some fuses but I don't remember which ones. I also asked if the truck has onstar but isn't active would it still cause a problem and they didn't know.

You might be able to pick up a pcm from the junk yard but I don't know if you could use it or not.

Do Not pay $1K for someone to replace your PCM. You can buy a stock one with the stock tune it it for around $200 or so, and easily install it yourself.
I agree with v8 - contact one of the professional tuners online here. They can give you good advice and probably a better tune, too.

I'd really press superchips to take care of you first though... if you followed the directions precisely and toasted your PCM then they are responsible... Call them up and explain what happened... ask for managers and be firm... but don't get nasty, that usually doesn't help.

'You will kill more flies with honey than something .... '

That's an old saying my people used to say. It means, you will get further in a situation being kind and curteous than if you were to aproach it from a bitter angle.

The dealer should be able to reflash your PCM for about $300.00. In the past Superchips has picked up the cost for this especially if you followed the instructions. Call superchips and see whats up with it. If they will not help you then maybe Nelson's or Westers will reflash it for you or sell you a tune.

If you buy a used PCM you will still have to get it flashed to your vin# as far as I know.

Try another dealer if you have to.

Best of luck with this.

If its an 03, then just call the dealer and say it won't start. They will tow it in, diagnose the PCM lost its flash file, then upload the new one with a TECH2. All under warranty. $0 cost. Just don't say that you used a handheld tuner, play dumb.

I had to do basically the same thing with my 03 (and so did deezel and several others I think). The PCM isn't dead, its flash is just corrupt and needs to be uploaded again. No need to buy a new one.
