Default headers question

i want to buy some nice asm or tog long tube headers for my 02 5.3 ecsb..........my exhaust is a single in dual out flowmaster very basic but sounds o.k. i like it so thats what matters............would it not be good to reuse that setup?..............do you gain alot buy going to true dual exhaust?........if so how much?.........i have an aem intake, nelson tune, 160 stat, and now i'm thinking headers but want decent exhaust...........i can't **** off the wife with some obnoxious exhaust that she has to yell over to talk...........can anyone feel me or am i alone on this one????????.......shes got lots of "practical" things to spend my grand on..........thanks alot for your opinions and advice

Single in Dual out is fine. However sometimes flowmaster exhaust can be loud. I bought a universal Borla 3 inch in Dual 2 1/4 out exhaust, and I am very happy with it. At idle in the cab is souds like you don't have a aftermarket exhaust on. However, when you step on it, it screams at wide open throttle, and sounds like a aftermarket exhaust on a Camaro or Firebird.

As long as you run cats you won't be to loud, when you remove the cats on a Flowmaster system you get to much of a metallic sound.
