should have mentioned its an hd, with factory dual manifolds going into a single muffler. No y pipe will be used. I"m just trying to decide whether i keep my cats or get new ones. pros/cons of either?

well there is one more thing. Should I run an H or X pipe somewhere in the mix?

yes, an x-pipe as close to the collectors as possible will do the best work.
