well if u wanna do longtubes then u can go with asm headers, they seem to be a good choice with good power gains. if ur gonna go shorty headers, than just get jba or gibsons. thier gonna run u 400-500 bucks

Go with TOGs then. They have a lifetime warranty if I remember correctly. Some guy on another forum told me his cracked twice(this guy has a seriously modded truck) and TOG sent him new headers, no hassle. Should be fine on a stock truck though.

I'll throw in for FLP 1.75" Long-Tubes. 100% bolt-on w/ hi-flow cats. Most expensive option, but it does give alot of improvement thru-out the whole RPM range (SOTP).
Haven't tried any of the other models but ASM's have a big following. They require cutting and welding before the stock cats.

If you gotta stay legal, Shorties will keep you there as will the Dynatech (FLP's) as I believe they are CARB legal too.
I really like The Other Guys headers, they have huge flanges (no warping!) and a killer warranty. The ASM's are also very nice and still retain the cats as do TOGs.
Shorties = ~$500
TOG = ~$700
ASM = ~$750
Dynatech = ~$1200
Are you going to be doing the install yourself?

Long tubes are not illegal, you just can't pass the sniffer with them in some areas...mainly larger metropolitain (sp?) areas. Well in you live in BFE, I'd go for the ASM long tubes.
If you wanna go true duals, Magnaflow makes a dual in/dual out 2.5" muffler with a built in X crossover. 12568 is the part number for the larger cased one, 11386 is the smaller cased one. That muffler will save you some cash over buying two mufflers and a seperate X-pipe. The smaller the case the louder the muffler will be.
Is there any particiular reason you want true duals? 2.5" into a 3" pipe will flow plenty for a N/A 4.8.
Dumps also resonate/drone down the freeway. I have a dumped 12588 (3" in/dual 2.5" out; 5x11x22) on my F-150 with some Hooker LT's and it drones pretty much like a Flowmaster. I can't wait to get my axle girdle on then I can get some tailpipes made!
