Has anyone had any head work on their stock truck heads. port-polish-bigger valves for a 5.3?? If so what kind of h.p. gains did you get? Trying to figure out if it's worth the money.

I'm porting my own truck heads. I'm just about finished
with them.
I'm going to put in an 01 LS6 cam. I hope to do the
swap in a month or so, if I can get a free weekend.

I guess since nobody in the truck forum has any input it must not be worth the money.

I think what you notice in the truck section is that "most" people want power, but go down the "bolt on" to get it. Very few have changed their cam, and even fewer have any head work done.
Heres a few off the top of my head:
Oxidizer has some heads (and project motor planned)
Jay already said he is working on his
SSHOTRODSCOM installed larger valves with his head work
"truck" has LS6 heads on his truck
Gonzo had some 6 liter heads worked over for his 6.0 upgrade
and I have an extra set I am about to start work on

I talked with Brian at Total Engine Airflow. He will rework your stock heads. The stage 2 he claims will gain you 80rwhp for $1799. He also has a cam for $275 that he says you will get 20rwhp from. These numbers seem almost to be too good to be true. But hey I am not an engine expert.

As of now, I have only completed "bolt-on mods," and have not even removed the valve covers.
I originally started with some 6.0L heads and had a SI P&P completed but eneded up selling those for a set of LS6s. I have a set of LS6 heads which have been throughly worked and are in the final stages of there rework. I sent them out orginally for a SII P&P @ Valley Head-basic bolt-on for the 5.3L stock short block. As I began shopping cams and parts I had a 6.0L block which I picked-up cheap. I parted it and began building the bottom end. I sent the heads back and had the chambers reworked for the larger bore and had them decked again due to the enlarged CC. As Larry began work on these he ended up stuffing some larger valves 2.08/1.60 and new seats. He ended up welding the roofs of the intake chambers and worked them out some more. I expect that the work he has into these heads are definately SII+ or SIII material. I began work on the 6.0L and ended-up selling it for an LS1 block which is now being sleeved at Race Prep.
So as of yet..no head work. Soon I hope to post some numbers, but those will be on the 388 block.
