Default head replacement

If I port and polish some heads for my truck (5.3) and then just bolt them on, WITHOUT TUNING, will the stock pcm be able to make up for increases enough for me to actually make decent use of the gained power, or will I just be killing myself doing this? I do plan on getting it tuned, I just wont be able to right away....thanks.

First of all, I'll admit that I'm nowhere near an expert on these computers but I'm pretty confident that your's will be able to accomodate the changes you're making. As a matter of fact, from what I've been told you can disconnect the computer for an hour or so, then hook it back up and take your truck out somewhere close by where you can make some bonzai runs with it and you'll be amazed at what the computer 'learns' about your engine and your driving habits.

Your truck can only "learn" so much. If you clean up your heads that would not be enough to effect the stock tune too much but you will not see as much power if you would add sometimng and change the shift points. Most of the gains you will see would probaly be from leaning out the a/f mixture from the increased airflow.

I would say if you want to go through all that trouble of removing the heads I would also do a cam at the same time. Then get a tune from Nelson.

yeah, if I remove the ehads, I will definetely be in there replacing the cam, not gonna pull a stupid one there, why do work twice? The thing is is that I'll have the heads done before I'll have a cam, and the chance to put them on sooner is also greater. And as for tuning, I would probably end up doing it myself, just need to get the software to do it!!! $$$$ is the only thing holding me back as I have a ton of time and the place to do all I wanted.

Well Why Would Be Doing Work Twice You Don't Need To Pull Heads To Change The Cam To Pull The Heads You Realy Don't Need To Do Nothing But The Alt.brack And The P/s Bracket Nothing Else Needs To Come Off The Front.to Replace The Cam You Just Need To Pull The Front Apart Water Pump And The Timeing Cover And Losen The Rocker Arm And Rotate The Cam A Few Times And Replace The Cam. Cam Swap Takes About 5 Hours If You Got All The Tools You Will Need A Drive Pulley Puller. For The Heads You Need A Tq Wrench And A * Meter HEADS TAKE ABOUT THE SAME TIME
