Default head recommendations

looking for a few recommendations for heads. I would prefer a stock set, for cost reasons, that I can mill for a CR of about 10 to 10.5:1.

casting numbers (and if you know the I/E port sizes) and cumbustion CC's would be great.

The desired effect here is MASS TORQUE!!!

I'm more than pleased with my WCCH Stage 1 heads. They are 862 5.3 castings that have had the bowls and chambers ported, larger valves installed, a valve job, and milled down to 58.8cc. With a .045 gasket it nets 10.0:1 CR. Give Richard from WCCH a call or shoot him a PM.

Gained me ~30 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. Better than lots of 6.0s. Also making more than 300 rwhp from 4750 rpm to redline.

Here's my dyno sheet.

Those are some sweet numbers. Is that on a stock bottom end? What are the specs on the vhp062? what cam are you running on those pulls? How much did those heads cost?

My main concern is below where your graph starts. If I hit 5K once a month, its alot. I am more concerned with the biggest jump being between idle and 4500.

I actually spoke to him a while back about a cam choice. But I am now thinking heads as well.

Yes, stock bottom end. I had a misprint in my first post, the heads are casting 862 not 853. The specs on the VHP 062 are 210/218, .551/.551, 112. That is the cam that is in the truck right now. This spring I'm taking the 062 out and swapping in the Comp 220/218, .581/.563, 111 that is in my sig.

I was dissappointed when I dynoed that they couldn't get the converter to lock below 4000rpm. But I can say that before the heads it would bark the 20's from a dig with the stock converter, and now it will blow them off still on the stock converter. They definately where a big gain from idle right on up to redline.

If I remember my heads a little under $700 plus core charge. I think they were well worth the money and effort.
