I got my flex-a-lite 295 electric fans in the mail. The only thing it come with was the VSC (variable speed control).
I've got a few questions:
I have a 160* Thermostat (which keeps my engine temp ~175), I think the lowest temp they will come on with the VSC is ~180.
Could I still use the VSC with the 160* thermostat?
I'd like to get the manual switch to turn them on when ever I want.
So, how should I have it set-up? With both-that way, if for some reason I forget to turn them on, they would come on when the engine starts to get hot?
Also, I'll be getting the ASP Crank Pulley sometime next week and later on a 400-500watt amp for my subs.
Should I go ahead and get a 130A alternater to be on the safe side?
Or, could I wait until I get the amp for a 130A alternater and just run the stock alternater with the crank pulley and the fans?
Just don't want to run into any problems with charging or anything!
Thanks.

well you will need the bigger alt. with the fans and the crank pulley. you will also need to get a smaller pulley mounted on the alt. for the extra 30 amps the fans pull. as far as the manual swithch if you leave it on the fans will stay on all the time or untill you turn off the key and vise verse. but if you install the manual off the fans will not come on at all even if the truck gets hot so becarfull with that switch lol and yes the vsc can only controll the fans on/off at 180 degrees but you will love the fans as much as i have and if you need help with anything email www.phil@flex-a-lite.com oh yea measure the blade area of your radiator before doing any install mine took the 282 fans because the radiator was 28". later, kevin

I think the stock 28" radiator uses the flexalite 295 fans. at least I think that's what Brian (Blownchevy) is using and I'm pretty sure he has the stock 28" radiator.
Can someone clear up this confusion please? I'm unsure myself.
Thanks.

You got the right ones. I got this straight from their website.

I got these as well however haven't had time to install them before winter hit.

You will definetly need the alt. I was already running a couple amps when I put mine in and the lights would dim noticably when the fans turned on. With the pulley's it will be even worse.

The VSC has a pin that you can hook up to a switch for manual control.
When the switch is off the fans operate just like normal with the thermostatic control. No need to worry about overheating.
The 160° thermo will be no problem with the fans. The only time it's kinda bad is when it's COLD out but, in LA you should have no problem with that. I've noticed that with the 20-30° weather we've had up here in Md. lately I have to really crank the heat to keep warm with the 160° stat.
With the sound system stuff you're getting I'd definately look into a new high output alternator. I think someone put a 200amp alt on a while back but, can't remember who.
