Gonna mod my 2500 6.0L truck, got some questions?
#1
Just picked up an '01 ECSB Silverado 2500 (LQ4) and I'm looking to mod it; the truck is gonna be my daily driver for a few weeks till I finish school. Im not looking to make it fast, just increase MPG's if possible and towing power.
What tranny do these trucks have 4L60E/4L80E?
The truck alreay has a K&N CAI and a Flowmaster exhaust. I was thinking of getting some E-fans, Magnaflow muffler, and a custom tune for now.
Will long tubes decrease any low end on these heavy trucks? Thinking of getting some shorties to boost bottom end power/midrange but Im not sure how these truck react to different headers.
Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks

Your plans sound pretty good. I don't think long tubes will make you lose any low end. I actually heard a few times that they give you more low end whereas shorties give you top end. Shorties are a waste imo, unless you get them for next to nothing. Also look into getting a set of underdrive pulleys (crank and alt.). They should give you a little more off-idle torque and maybe 1 mpg.

Your trans is a 4L80E, stout trans
I didn't notice any loss in low end from my LT's, but I definitely felt an increase up top. There's a few good options for LT's and y-pipes, if you have the coin. Check out StainlessWorks, ARH, and Dynatech. A custom tune is a must IMO, just tell the tuner what your expectations are. We have some great tuners that sponsor this site, BlackBear, Wheatley, and Nelson. I can't help but recommend a cam to anyone looking to mod one of these GENIII engines, even a mild grind will help performance without a big hit to your fuel economy. My baby cam and tuning was good for almost a whole second and 8mph in the 1/4.
