Going to Nelsons in a few weeks. Debating on buying a CAI before I go.
#1
Finally getting around to going down to San An to let Allen Dyno tune my new truck.(06'ECSB 5.3,3.73s ect) My last truck was an 04'RCSB with the same options. With Nelsons tuning, FIPK and Magnaflow Catback it ran a 14.6. Not too shabby for a DD.
Question is this: Am I really going to see a noticable 1/4mi time improvement with a CAI over the stock unit? Only mods to truck are a Magnaflow catback, and after the tune, those will be the only mods I will ever do on this vehicle.
Should I drop the $200 on a FIPK before I get it dyno tuned? Or should I just save the cash. I remember when I traded in my 04' I removed the FIPK just before I took it up to the dealer and I remember not feeling ANY loss in SOTP area whatsoever.
Thoughts?

Id say buy one eventually. If you do it now or later thats up to you. It isnt going to help you right now in the 1/4 mile but if it was me it would be in the back of my head and Id end up buying one. It was the first mod I did for my truck but thats becuase it was the only thing I could get my hands on at the spur of the moment. $200 could get you some 4.10's or almost halfway to a convertor.

I truthfully could not tell that big of a difference after the K&N cold air on my '03 so I 'opened up' the stock box and changed to a Airaid tube to elminate the silencer part of the factory intake when I got my '05.
IMO, I don't think I would spend the money on a cold air setup unless I had a cam or head work.

honestly my old truck ran better with the stock airbox on it. Thats why I am just running the stock box with an airraid mit and true flow filter on this one, done some of the free mods to the stock box. I would prefer to go this route as opposed to spending 2-3 hundred bucks on an intake for not much gain.
