GMC 5.3 tranny strength?

No stronger than the ones in the Fbodies.
The extra weight of the trucks actually makes them more prone to breaking stuff and wearing out clutches IMHO.
For a daily driver type truck that won't be abused the transmission is fine though.
Start increasing horsepower and driving like a maniac and it won't last long. It's just a 4L60E like the Fbodies. The 4L65E is slightly stronger but, only comes in 6.0L vehicles.
The 4L80E is a beast but, only comes in 2500+Heavy Duty trucks. It can be swapped in to a 1500 series truck without too much fuss though.

I'm over 100k on the stock tranny with 3000 stall since 65k and I drive like a maniac, a big cooler, regular fluid changes and a little bit of luck have gotten me this far. Just bolt on mods though on a 5.3.
