Hey man welcome to the site. For starters just like they all said intake, custom tune, set of gears and exhaust would be a good start. After all that an you save up more get yourself a radix or a turbo set up.You should go run your friend with the hemi ram.Might be suprised.I have pulled a few rcsb hemi rams

welcome to the land of the the 4.8L's
pretty much what everyone else has said goes..
IMO a gear swap, posi, and a stall will net you a good time..at the track,
most likely will knock off atleast 7/10ths of a second..
I know my swap did.
ask all the questions you need to.. there are no dumb questions..
but also try the search function to.. you could probably find the answer quick that way....
I dont know if any of us actually live on this sight or not
so it might be a while sometimes before an answer arrives...
But you have come to the right place to find answers..
I know a few of us that are really pushing these 4.8L hard, and getting some crazy numbers out of them...
both N/A, and spraying, as well as F/I
Good luck tho.
Later,
Daniel

bang for the buck, stay away from the boltons, fipk, tstat, catback, these are all finishing touches, what you would spend on the boltons you could through in a cam, or stall, or gears. The Fipk failed to change my grams per second across the maf, the exhaust, well did not make a difference stock truck, once i did the cam 7 installed true duals, i noticed a nice difference. gears are good for a solid 1/2 second.

if he's looking to keep it street driveable, I would think he should stick with either a 3000 or 3200 at the most. just my .02
but the 4.10's are good, I want to put some on my truck.

I had 3.42 gears from the factory on my 4.8 so I put 4.10's on and it made a huge overall difference. It became really fun to drive. I dont care what anyone says 4.10 are very streetable and I actually gained 1.5 mpg.
