Default Gen 3 to Gen 4 Swap

Okay guys and gals I need some help on what is needed to do a swap on these engines. My truck is a 2000 Silverado 4.8.

The only reason I ask is because I can pick up a 2007 Gen 4 5.3 with 243/799 heads and only 70k miles for $500 bucks. Great deal if you ask me. Just wanting to know besides DOD/AFM what would need to be changed over?

I planned on either boring the 4.8 and taking it to a 5.7 with the corresponding rods/crank. However this is just a really really good deal. I have seen the heads cost more than 500 bucks.

The guy gave me some numbers off the block and heads (I think the head number might be wrong) 12576178 for the block. That lead back to the LY5, is that right? The head numbers were 6289L2340777. No idea on that one, looks wrong to me.

He now added it was out of a 2007 Classic and not the nnbs.

The number he gave you on the head was etched into the out side and wont give you any info. Ask him for the 3 or 4 digit code cast into the top corner next to the valve cover.

He says it is the 243 heads. Does that help at all?

So it should be good to go? No AFM/VVT?

Sounds like an LY5. They have afm but no vvt. You can do the dod delete pretty easily, but you'll need the harness and computers from that truck as yours will not work.

Or change the Reluctor wheel to a 24x.

Why won't it? From what I've been reading I was under the impression that the differences were the crankshaft position sensor, and the knock sensors. I thought a simple extendo of the harness would make it work. After the DOD delete anyways. What am I missing?

Figures I would respond while someone else haha. So if I go ahead and do that would that be all that needed to be changed? I planned on opening it up and checking everything out. Replacing anything that looks wore.

I believe the cam sensor is also in a different spot.

Should be, there is a few threads floating around on guys that have done the swap before. Try to find them with the search.
