Default Gains from 5.3 with bolt ons?

Alright, i just got my 03 TB, ext with the 5.3 liter. Love it, all leather and plenty of other options. It has 112K miles and drives great....BUT IT IS A TURD.

What gains can i expect from a muffler, CAI and a tune? Also, what free mods do they have available? Coolant bypass and what else? I do the carbed LS in my 89 RS so the EFI is not my cup of tea, but since it is not my toy it is OK with me. It is a family car.

Recommendations for cold air kit?

Will i notice anything with a 1 chamber flow other than sound?(sound is good)

How much economy can i pick up with said mods? I have a buddy that can tune the hell out of it for me and has done many a GEN III/IV motors so i am confident he can get it doing better.

It is getting a mix of mid 17-mid 16 MPG but i have been just driving it today and seeing how it responds to my mild spirited driving.

Just want it to move when i stab it instead of turding off the line and pull harder across the board for passing and getting away from idiot drivers.

Pic of said new ride:

Muffler-whatever you want for sound, wont really be any gain
Also if you want to change over to a e-fan contact Alvin at pcmforless, they have harness/brackets for a clean install of either the ls1 or c6 style fans

Well, says the CAI is out of stock, i figured the 1 chamber would throw out some of the TQ in exchange for some top end power(nothing you can feel). K&N said near 20 HP CAI gains, but i hope the muffler, tune and CAI would be enough to feel a difference in the seat of the pants along with free mods and get some better MPG.

Sounds like anything that wil happen? I have NO experience with SUVs much less EFI.

Also, what size is the stock pipe? Looks 3".

Oh yea, i am assuming a 160 T stat or something in that area will help as well right? Or is it a waste of time?

Factory electric fans would be a nice addition. Supposedly they are only good for 10 HP or so, but I felt a noticable increase in throttle response. I just hate the sound a clutch fan makes when you get on it, the engine feels like it revs so much quicker with the electric fans.

well first off congrates zane, next get a magnaflow muffler for better sound, cai is all about the same,160 stat will make you loose mpg, tune will help the most.

elect. fans will help in the heat, but winter time its the same as the clutch fan.

good luck.

Ls1 comaros are most common to fit the current size radiator. You can get some off an 05+ truck but would need the larger radiator to go with it.
