Default fuel pump whine at startup???

sounds aweful right when i start the truck, i usually turn the key on and let it start to pump, and then kick it over to start it up, and lately it has started making an aweful sound. probably the last 5-10 startups, and it's been running pretty crappy right after startup lately. i had been leaving this to the weather change and the cam, but the fuel pump whine has made me think it might go deeper than that. anyone have any suggestions???????

Keep an eye on your fuel pressure, the whine usually means the pump days are numbered....

Did you by any chance run your tank really low on gas before this all started happening? This was a big problem when the trucks first came out, people were running out of gas and frying their pumps. In fact, I don't know if they are still programmed this way, but my low fuel light comes on when I still have at least 5 gallons in my tank.

yeah, I have 130k on the original pump and it has been whinning for at least 40k miles. But just watch your fuel pressure cause a noisy pump is likely to go out.

i have over 64k on mine right now and i've NEVER had any kind of sound from the pump, and all of a sudden it's started doing this, and i would chalk it up to paranoia but the hard starting, and stumbling has made me think it may be dying. it sucks that we don't have much for aftermarket intank fuel pumps though. anyone have any suggestions for the pump???

Get the Fbody replacment pump. I think summit has it for about $120. Much cheaper than the assy from GM....

They don't get noticably louder before they go out,my Boost-a-pump fried 2 intank fuel pumps on my Tahoe with no audible warning.I think some fuel pumps are just louder, the pump on my 96 Suburban was loud and went over 100,000 miles with no problems.I would change the fuel filter[cheap insurance]and not worry about it,as long as that takes care of the starting and stumbling problem.
