Default fuel pump hose?

I posted this over in the fuel section, but I am not getting many responses so I thought I would copy and paste it over here-maybe you truck guys can help....

Ok, I recently replaced the stock in tank pump in my truck with a home brewed dual pump setup. After putting it all back together the gas gauge went nuts so I had to order a new sender and I just got around to installing it today.

Anyways, I used a piece of high pressure fuel injection rubber hose to hook the pumps to the module (in place of that factory flex tubing) After less than 2 weeks that hose has deteriorated and become soft. The outer layer was separating and was swollen quite a bit. My question is this....what type of hose is capable of being submersed in gasoline without failing?? Is the factory flex tube available separately? I needed to get it back together and all I had was some power steering hose so thats what I put it back together with for now.

I need recommendations on what to use before that p/s hose breaks down.

I e-mailed racetronix and they are not willing to sell me the flex line.

Racetronics couldn't tell you where they buy theirs? So you just used a high pressure rubber line? Doesn't parish's dual pump setup from Racetronics use some rubber line too? I wonder if it is deteriorating also...

We said "Sorry, this item is not available."
We did not say that we were not willing to sell it to you!
There are many variations available for flex lines.
We stock only the sizes used for in-house production ONLY!
Flex hoses come in boxes of 1000+.

Attached is a picture of the dual pump module you produced "in house" for Parish. The size flex line in the picture is what I am looking for. Are you willing to sell me one of those?

We currently do not have any of those sitting in inventory.
We do have some complete pump couplers. E-mail sales@racetronix.com for pricing info.

Your other option is to use fuel injection hose that is rated for immersion in fuel such as SAE30R9.

Well, I sent them an e-mail and they gave me a price so I replied back saying that I wanted to order and got no response. I then sent 3 more e-mails asking to buy this item and got no response. I then contacted 2 of their dealers who also had no luck in getting the part for me.

So then, needing to get this thing fixed ASAP, I start looking for a place to buy the hose suggested by Racetronix:

I quickly learned that SAE30R9 is NOT rated for immersion in gasoline (come to find out that is what I had in there that had turned to mush in less than 2 weeks) I learned that the spec for intank rubber hose is SAE30R10 I suspect that Racetronix was trying to purposely give me misinformation since I pissed them off on this deal from the beginning. Either that or they are not as knowledgeable as they claim to be on fuel systems.

Anyways, I found a source for the "R10" hose and all is well now so I just thought I would let everyone know what the final outcome was.

There are many types of hose that are or are not designated for immersion in gas.
Sometimes a manufacturer may decide not to rate a hose for a particular purpose because it is not a market they wish to target.
i.e. some types of push-lock hose are better able to handle today's gas than FI SAE rated hose.
The other consideration is liability and insurance. Some manufacturers have the same hose that is offered in their industrial lineup and their automotive lineup with two different part numbers. The automotive part number is 2-3 times the price of the industrial part number so that they can pay the outrageous insurance liability fees. If you use the industrial part number and burn your car down then they can claim you did not use the hose for its intended application.

We have R7, R9 and R10 hose here. Some have different compositions depending on the manufacturer. The R9 we have has Hyperlon with a dual braid which we have found to be better than the R7 and R10 some companies include with their pump installation kits. Teflon is the best by far. We use flex tubes with our fuel pump couplers which do not have any of the problems the rubber hoses have. No matter what type of rubber hose you have eventually the Xylene, Toluene, Ethanol etc. will kill it.

L-EATER next time you should think twice about spouting off about a reputable vendor such as Racetronix. We have better things to do than give customers the run-around on a $25.00 transaction. As a manufacturer a $25.00 transaction costs us more to process than we would make on the item so it is more of a courtesy sale to help you out! If we did not wish to help you out then we would not have engaged in correspondence to begin with. FYI we did send you a reply to your e-mail but never received a reply back but then again what do you expect when you use an e-mail provider like Yahoo or Hotmail.

MacADaYear don't be so quick to jump on someone else's bandwagon before you know the facts because you could end up wearing their dirty laundry.

Subject: fuel line

I am the guy from LS1 Tech who is interested in the fuel tube for the intank pump on a 2002 Silverado. First let me say that I went back and read what I wrote and I realized it sounds like I was being a "smart a$$" I didn't mean to come across like that, I was just trying to make sure you and anyone else reading knew exactly what part I am needing.

You stated you have "complete pump couplers" is that an assembly including the tube and the "T" fitting? I really need to get this thing fixed so if it is please let me know the price.

Thanks again,

Bervil Hillis
