Okay, that's what I wanted to hear. I as well heard that Fram products suck and I've stayed away from them but I wanted to hear some first hand experience. Good to know.
I just use regular old AC Delco filters, they've done me well.

Wix oil filters used to have a cutaway visual-demo display in auto parts stores where you could see the difference between theirs,Fram and one other(might've been Purolator). Wix media and bypass valve looked better than the others.

FRAM is not terrible, the clogging and/or disintigrating (SP?) filters are a thing of the past and have been a non-issue for a number of years now.

However I will admit that I do not buy FRAM for this very reason.

I beg to differ. I saw one that failed in May of this year. It smoked the main bearings on a BBC on the dyno. this was a Fram HP filter also. supposed to be 'top of line' for FRAM. their filters suck bottom line. they screw on and that is about it.

Talking

the experiences i have seen is where the glue in the filter and the paper both coming apart causing a resriction. i have seen this more than once.i have also seen the paper give way.i think most instances were from extended periods of filter change. i have used all ac delco filters since.if not a/c then wix.

The engine specs of this engine were?

I have a theory to that if you can answer the above question...

I use a Canton racing filter,it has a replaceable element and flows about twice what a stock filter will.

I have heard horror stories of fram filters exploding on $10,000 racing motors while going down the track. I have also experienced fram oil filter failure and havent bought one since. This particular incedent happened on my girlfriends 04 honda accord, I do all the oil changes myself (I have mechanical ability amd used to do oil changes, transmission filter and fluid changes and tires etc at a service station) I used a fram xtra guard and the filter lasted 2,000 miles and then out of the blue one day the gasket blew out on one side and squirted out about 3 qts of oil. Good thing we were only 2 miles from home and we were able to pull into a friends driveway and get a ride. And before fou ask, I always hand tighten my filters and this is the first time thats ever happened. I use WIX or AC. WIX also makes Carquest's filters.
