Freebie cam, do I need to modify my heads?

The 26099 springs are way more than what you would need with a mild set-up being a dual spring set that is rated at 245 lbs on the seat @ 2.050” installed height and 693 lbs open load @ 1.250”. They have an outer O.D. of 1.625” and coil bind @ 1.184”, with a spring rate of 561 lbs/in.

There are a few sets that would be more compatible with a small cam such as what you’ve said you’re looking at, such as either Comp’s 911 or upgraded 924 spring set. The 911 springs are a single spring that is rated at 122 lbs on the seat @ 1.900” installed height and 309 lbs open load @ 1.400”. They have an outer O.D. of 1.524” and coil bind @ 1.200”, with a spring rate of 373 lbs/in. The 924 springs are a dual-spring set that is rated at 112 lbs on the seat @ 1.900” installed height and 355 lbs open load @ 1.200”. They have an outer O.D. of 1.509” and coil bind @ 1.175”, with a spring rate of 347 lbs/in. There are also beehive springs available now that would work for your application.

The 26099 springs that you’ve come across, besides having twice the pressure you need may also not be a drop-in replacement for the spring pockets machined in your heads due to their larger O.D. They are also designed for a taller than stock installed valve stem height of 2.050” vs 1.900”.
