When I started the engine, I didn't have the LQ4, only an old SBC. The difference in price for the LQ4 was about $800-$1000 over the LM7. At the time it was planned to be a budget build so I started with the LM7. Knowing what I've spent now, the extra grand would be pretty small in comparison... Lesson Learned!

by the time I owned the truck with the LQ4 I already had a fully machined and assembled 383 short block. I decided to stick with what I had.

I'm going to mod my hemi motor next, but after that there's no stopping me from going bigger on another LS motor

that's the plan! Hoping to find a non-running 6.1 hemi for "cheap" and rebuild it. Then I can sell my existing 6.1 hemi for around $5k to recoup some of the cost.

Nice tools, we have a lot of Mitutoyo and Starrett as well as Brown & Sharpe bore gauges, but I prefer tri-mics for measuring bore ID's myself. I know those bore gauges are good for measuring taper as well though. I don't have much tools like that myself, but I do have Mitutoyo IP67 digtal/certified calipers in 6/12 and love them. I've put them up against everyone's dial calipers up at work and they're consistently more accurate than them. liking that build a lot, should run hard!
