Default flx-280 and 6.0 radiator kick ***

first, the flex280/282 is way wider than the stock 5.3 radiator that came with my truck.

i got my flx-280 fan today and it is a nice unit, very well constructed and sweet looking, the controler is butt ugly and needs to be mounted out of site. with the temp control turned all the way down my truck holds 174deg(atap) this is at idle in 90deg heat. the fan is cycling and runing at a reduced speed so it may be able to get cooler if the fan is turned on solid and full speed.

after leting the truck idle for at least 1/2 hour i shut the fan off and let it warm up to 210deg, then i turned the fan back on and it took about 7minutes for the temp to be back down to 174deg. now thats cool.

these tests are just in the garage, the 280 model is for the pre 99trucks and i was going to make it work since the 282model is always on back order but the fan came with a flyer that says just call them up and they will overnight the correct brackets for our trucks so instead of messing around makeing it work i will wait untill tomorrow and bolt it in with the right brackets.

i think i am finaly ready to goto the track, hopefully with some consistant engine temps i will be able to run some consistant times and then start to work them down.

Good to hear...I'm going to be replacing the radiator as well when the new block goes in. In addition I will be replacing the coolant with some Evans NPG.

GET some times on that animal...you have got a lot of hard work in it now see if it all pays off.

This is what I've heard as well and also why I've been waiting for the larger raditor before dumping in the coolant. I've got a remote-mount electric water pump idea I'm trying to work some bugs out of and a bracket/idler assembly in the works. I figure more flow is gonna cost more power to drive no matter what kind of mechanical pump, so why not go electric and pick-up some power AND flow. I ran a CSI on my Impala SS with no issues so I'm pretty comfortable with the reliability/drivability issue.

i will be happy if i start with consistant high 14's, i know that is sad but something seems to be really holding me back, i still have the stock 5.3 exhaust.

i am keeping my expectations low, i thought the big injectors(and more fuel) would be the hot ticket but that didn't turn out to be the case so now i am hoping that a consistant 175deg coolant temp will give me something i can work with, before i could make one run before the heat set in and the KR set in. i want consistancy, then i can start to work with the shiftpoints, boost, timing, fuel, torque management......

Parish8:

When you get to the track unbolt the muffler from the Y-pipe at the flange. That alone should be good for 10-15 RWHP on a poweradder vehicle.

i have a set of AS&M headers on order, going to follow that with no cats, dynomax 3" super turbos(big body), and a pair of 3" tail pipes out the stock location. i want to keep it prety quiet, the mufflers have a full 3" tube thru them(not strait thru) so i am not sure how quiet it will actualy be.

the 6.0 radiator is a direct bolt in, it has a 6" wider core and the rest is the same, the truck even has threaded holes that are farther apart. if someone was keeping the mechanical fan set up the shroud from the 6.0 would be required.
