As far as I can recall, my gas cap is black on my '06 5.3 flex fuel Silvy..

There should be a sticker on the door for the gas that says E-85, typically right under where you set your cap to rest while you are pumping; at least this is the way it is on my wifes '03 Z71 Hoe(L59).

for most trucks, the 8th digit is a Z. Some trucks have yellow caps, some dont. Some have the e85 sticker on the inside gas door, some dont.

It looks like the 8th character has to be a Z for the Silvy or Sierra from that GM link. I have a Z in my vin but not the 8th character it's a T.
