That was using the factory style MLS head gasket with a .051" compressed thickness. They run about $35 from rockauto.com or Summit. part #12498544
Here's a link to info on them saved in the "Notes" section of my Facebook blog page:

Got a video up of the heads back from the machine shop. They're ready to go onto the 5.3 thats going into the '87 Chevy truck. 862's, home ported and bigger LS1 intake valves. I should have it running on the engine stand this weekend. Getting it running will take longer then usual since I will be trying to capture it on video. I'll also vidoe the use of my home made LS external oil primer and make about three different videos out of this probably.

I think i did post it here. Check post #58. Is that the video that you're talking about? For some reason on this site it doesnt show the player like it does on the LS1 site. But good point showing that Im trying to maintian two of the same thread on two different sites. lol thanks!
I didnt get a chance to go through the parts list yet. I really hope to this weekend. But in my head, I think that I have everything except fuel hose. I need to installe the higher flowing fuel pumps before the swap still.
I've been slammed lately and it seems impossible to make good progress on these projects. Im considering taking vacation time just to get some done.
LS Fest is coming up quick! lol

Me too man! I got a video of torquing down the heads last night. I might get a chance to crank it tonight. We'll see.
I had a scare last night that slowed down my progress. I spent all day out in the sun at a car show and i think it affect my brain. I decided to do a clay test to check PTV with a light valve spring and regular lifter. Well my intake valve hit the piston... because I torqued the rocker all the way down out of habit and pushed the preload into the valve lift. After jackin with that, cussing a while and researching a fly cutting tool, I finally realized what I had done and the PTV came out with plenty of room at .117".
I also got to hook up my home made external oil primer. I only had a quart of oil to test with but it seemed to work well. I hope to video using it on the other 4 or 5 quarts today.
Its getting close!
