Guys who run the 1/4 use magnaflows. if you want to keep the stock pipes and just change the muffler, some will even suggest flowmaster. but i think good cat-backs are corsa or borla. make sure you go stainless instead of aluminized. a little more expensive but it will pay-off in the long run. for a programmer, most guys use a HPP3 depending on their mods. some even use LS1 Edit. there are more expensive ones out there too. thing to consider is what octane gas you want to run. i ran my HPP3 with 87 and 93. i notice a little difference (seat of the pants). but i tuned it back to 87 due to high gas prices lately look at what a few guys have posted above about the torque converters. i noticed alot of guys have raved over the yank converters. i don't think they would cost you too much. cheaper than 6.0 swap and S/C. good luck.

if you are eventually going to get a HPP3 or other prgrammer, try getting that 1st. on my truck, i put the K&N on 1st, Borla 2nd, and HPP3 last. didn't notice too much difference when i programmed my truck w/ the HPP3. i am curious how much of a difference i would notice if it was my 1st mod. just a thought. if you are lucky and know someone in your area with a programmer for your model and year truck, have them program their truck back to stock, and then program your truck with their programmer to see if you like it. kind of a long shot though since you have a 2003. not too many people have them yet. but they are increasing in #'s on the road everyday i'm out driving
