Default Finally got my LS1

Well I got my LS1 to swap for my 5.3, the motor has less than 35k on it and looks really clean. I bought it with the heads off and decided to do some small stuff in preperation for future mods. (Cam & LT's) I picked up an LS2 cam, springs and Pr's for cheep and figured I would try them out on my setup. Since the heads are off I got them milled .030 and am useing stock GM gaskets. I am also doing a little port job, nothing major just cleaning up the bowls and blending the seats. With my heads being milled .030 can I still use the stock length LS2 PR or am I going to need a different size? I know the cam is not big but the cam should work good with stock manifolds no stall, and the stock tune. I will also be replacing the timing chain with a LS2 one.

Speaking of the stock tune I spoke with TXsilverado and he said I would be okay with the stock tune. Anyone else running the stock 5.3 tune with a 5.7? I will be getting a tune but I am going to have to wait a while before I get one due to low funds$$$. Plus I dont want to tune it till I get LT's and a converter, which will take some time. So will I hurt the motor running on a stock tune or will I be okay. I might have to wait up to a year to get it tuned.

Sorry for the lack of info, I have a 2002 silverado ECSB 4WD. Only mods I have are the LS1 E-fans, shift kit with corvette servos and an intake. Oh and had the mufler removed, running just pipe.

What do you guys think, should be a good "stock" setup right?

all i can say is to put them in and turn the motor over by hand and see if you can spin them. Only a few are actually going to be able to spin anyways. If you can spin them i would think they are ok, but i would just try and get some kind of pushrod length checker

stock tune will work temporarily. i drove on my performance 5.3 tune for 2 weeks. i wouldnt go around stomping on it all the time. why not spend the 275 for a good tune? im sure its not cheap to buy the motor, do the heads blah blah...whats another 300 bux as cheap insurance on your investment?

ls2 cam would drop in any gen IV engine. On a gen III engine you'll need to have the timing cover, timing chain, and cam sprocket from the ls2, the cam position sensor is in the timing cover, and you'd need to extend the wires for it from the back of the motor to the front of the motor.

Well I dont know any tuners that will tune for that cheep. All the local tuners charge $450-550, but they are all dyno tunes. I was thinking about a nelson tune but when I looked I think they were about the $400 range. If I knew a tuner that could do it for under 300 I would get it done sooner.

I got the motor really cheep, I picked up the motor for $500. The milling on the heads didnt cost me anything because I did the work. And the LS2 cam, springs and Pr I got for $65. Not bragging just showing I have a low budget.

Thanks for the info I didnt know that the LS2's were anything different , looks like in need to find another cam. Probably a LS6 cam.
