Farmtruc gets another engine
#1
well about a month ago, i started troubleshooting why my engine had low oil pressure. after eliminating everything while in the truck, i pulled it and found something. when i pulled the pan a bearing fell out, it looked like a cam bearing. very hard to recognize, it was all chewed up. good thing the engine was under warranty. valvegod sent me another one and i just got it in last night. it idles smooth and feels very responsive. not like the other one that make ticking noises and knocked on startup.
i'll get to test drive it after work today, i didn't want to do it at night, i needed to watch for wires and leaks.
the block is a 02 ls6 with ls1 internals, i wonder if i'm going to get anymore hp out of it. i do have the stock ls1 heads on it still. the only thing that changed was the block.
i'll be going to the track next friday if anyone is interested. that would be the 12th of oct.
i'm hoping to low 14's with a well lubricated block and a little more experience.
later,
mutant

Is the only difference the cam and a fresh block? or is it a ls1 cam as well? The ls6 block and ls1 block are not going to have any advantages over one another.

I thought the LS6 block was a little better since it has the vent holes in the main webs.
I remember reading that helped produce more power on the LS6 engines. That was from GM though so who knows. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I'm sure the power difference would be minimal.
Good to hear Shaun took care of ya. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I know Mutant then Farmtruc, i'm still trying to decide which username to use.
Got the truck going and went to the track, i ran 14.4 down from a 14.7. the block gave me a few tenths. oh, and i have oil pressure. it's a stock ls6 block with ls1 internals and ls1 heads.
the block seems to rev very smoothly, and i hit the limiter ofter cause it's so quiet and sounds like it could rev to 7000rpms. not going to try it, i did bump the limiter to 6500rpms. and it still feels like it pulls.
