Default F body intake on 4.8??

I was wondering.. Since i put my fans in i have lots of room in front of the throttle body. Has anyone ever put like a ram air type thing like what the fbods have on their pickup. Seems like youd get a better maf reading and better air flow without that 90 deg turn. It looks possible. Has anyone done this, please let me know. It seems like the intake air would be much cooler than having to travel thru a warm intake tube!

Thanks,
Derek

Just bolt your MAF to the Throttle body and then a cone filter in front of that lol!

Not to be a hack but could you tell any difference with the addition of the fans..I read awhile back that it wasn't worth the swap and hurt it down low a lil bit, there is another thread i read about a ls6 vrs the ls1 intake https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=360663 intake Thanx

You might actually pull hotter air in that way. This is because the filter will be located closer to the engine and there will be no heat sheild around it. Also unless you have some tubing that wil run down to help get cool air, you are going to be restricting the air flow bc the hood and grill assembily will be in the way.
Now if you had a ram air style hood them it would help alot more.

It's already been done guys.....but you HAVE to have an HD hood in order for it to work. I just did this on a buddy's '01 HD for him...It looks REALLY trick when you pop the hood.....

A stock f-body air-box will bolt to the core support if you have electric fans (requires drilling/tapping and a little bit of patience to line everything up and make it all work) and the stock f-body bellows can be used with an extension to connect the MAF to the TB.....without the HD hood you don't have enough room for the air-box setup though. And to make this as effective as possible you need to cut a slot in the radiator cover to let air from the grill area reach the inlet on the air-box
