Default Exshaust or CAI first?

First of all, I installed my Volant cold air intake on my 06' SS Sliverado that I had on my 05' GMC Sierra 5.3. Should this fit? Everything seemed to fit ok, but I lost low end response from when the OEM was on. So I put my stocker back on, and the response is back to normal. I know that its been about 108* in Vegas, but I can figure out why its doing this. So I thought of a few of things.
#1 Is it just to freaken hot and its sucking to much hot air?
#2 Is the TB size different from the 5.3 to the 6.0, which I think it is, and the CAI is to small for the 6.0? Or does the Volant fit both.
#3 Should I have installed an after market exshaust first? The CAI is sucking to much air, and the stock exshaust doesn't have enough flow for the CAI.
What do you think?

Aftermarket exhaust is not needed for the CAI but i would have done exhaust first to begin with. Do a search on the modded stock air boxes, you might have a intrest on this topic.
