Default Which short/mid length headers?

Before you say it-yes I know-use long tubes.

I agree that the LT's are the way to go on a max effort truck. I already have one of those that runs low 12's, and am not going to go that direction with this truck, nor am I going to spend the $1500 for the dynatechs (I wanted to) that will be overkill for what I'm trying to do with this truck.

It's an 06 CC 1500 4wd with the max pak that will be used a couple times a month to tow my camaro with an enclosed trailer (7000lbs), but mostly an around town and over the road truck used for work.

I'd like to get all the low and mid range power out of the truck for towing, but don't need a power adder, as I'd like to run 87/89 if needed, and get respectable mpg. I've got a westers tune, airaid cai and a B&B catback. I realize that the mid and short headers may only net me 5-10 extra ponies, but I'll take all the low down tq I can get.

Looking for something that bolts up (fits) to the stock y pipe, ceramic coated, donut style would be preferable, and gives a decent gain for the $, nothing el cheapo. Thx for some info!

I have Gibsons short headers, (Chrome). If I had seen the shape of the inside of my stock manifolds before I got the short headers I never would have done it. The stock Manifolds are about as tubular as the short headers. I don't really see a gain from them.If I had known this before I would have went Mid or long. Spend the 300/500 bucks on some other upgrade till you can go Long(er). Just My .02, but I'm Sperienced on Dat.....

if you can still find them(not on the market) but HAMM headers make a nice midlength header. my current set is sold to bigtex or i would offer them up. search for them. you might find a set.

otherwise i would consider doug thorley headers. not many people run them but they are also of great quality and design. not the shorty's, the midlength

Fast CC_You reminded me of something the last time I put some jba's on my 01 C3, in that I remebered thinking the stock exhaust manaifolds looked pretty similar to the jba's.
I think I'll just save the $ on the headers and used it for the gv unit for better gear splitting/towing/mpg. Thx!

Maybe they dont give too much in the way of power, i didn't do a before or after, but my ceramic coated shorty's definately kep the engine comp. coler and they are lighter than the stock manifolds! Consolation?

I would at least go with mid-length headers. The shorties will more than likely not be noticed, at least that's what everyone else has said that has had personal experience with them.
I've heard of guys that have felt the gains from mid-length headers without the loss of your low-end pulling torque that I'm sure you want to keep from losing.
The con with the mid-length headers is the exhaust will have to be fabricated to make it work with or without cats.
The shorties will bolt right up with no exhaust mods.
The Dynatechs will bolt right up, but I know your trying to avoid high costs.
Either which header you use, get them ceramic coated or your under hood temps will rise from the loss of the heat shields your O.E. manifolds came with.
Good luck on the decision!

Jim

I am a fan of the ceramaic coating for sure. $1500 for LT's-$750 for a good set of shorties/mid lengths, or more with welding needed.

I'd like to hear of some mid lengths that are worth some tq, and are quality pieces.

How about some ASM's? Aren't they around $800, and you can still retain your factory y-pipe, just need to cut it and weld on some flanges. I had Gibson shorties on my truck for about 5 years...back when I got them there wasn't much available as far as headers goes (at least that I was aware of). I'll admit that the quality and fitment was good (aside from one of the driver's side primaries hitting the steering shaft), but the power increase was little to none, and they were over $500 if I remember correctly (stainless steel). This was back around 2000-2001.

mac Fbody headers work on trucks that what i run. driver side drops right in and passenger side needs the tubes brought together. which is easy with vise but after that its good. also the fbody Y pipe woudl work on a 2wd truck but if nto then just use the ball and socket flange to adapt to your current Y pipe and youre set
