Default Exhaust Questions

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum. I have a few questions:

I have a 2000 Silverado RCSB 5.3L, running a K&N filter, with the factory cats and no mufflers. Oh, and I had the exhaust "true dualed" years ago. The truck only has 57,000 miles on it. I like the sound, but I would like it to be louder. My question is, to be able to remove the cats would I have to get a Hypertech programmer or the sort, or can I safely do it without buying one?........or would I be better to go with a couple of high flow cats instead?. I don't want to go through the hassle of having the "Service Engine Soon" light coming on. Any help would be appreciated. Take care everyone and God Bless,

If you wanted to remove your cats, you could get o2 sims or
have someone like Nelson performance tune your pcm.
Hypertech will not do anything for the ses light being on.
Just a fyi nelson can keep your check engine light off
and give you a wicked tune to boot.

any mail order tune can turn the rear O2's off. the predator allows you to get a custom tune to turn them off as well. Like mentioned above, hypertech will not do it. The only other way besides a tune is O2 sims.

As far as wanting her exhaust louder. The removal of the cats would make it too damn loud. I have my cats removed and when the cutout is open it is ungodly. If you have your pipes coming out the rear of the truck, you can cut them back and dump them somewhere under the truck. It will be louder and sound better.

I agree, if your going to take your cats off at least put put a pair of mufflers on. Like if you put a pair magnaflows, or even spintech mufflers it'll sound quite a bit louder than before and damn good!. And definetly get a good program like Westers or Nelsons tune because they can delete the cats and the rear 02 sensors. the handhelds like Hypertech and Superchips don't like it without cats thats why I just sold mine and am getting a custom tune.
