Default Exhaust question for SUV owners...

Hey guys. I know I've been beating these repeated topics in the ground, but I've heard a lot of responses from people with trucks. I've got an 02 Yukon and currently have a JBA catback exhaust on it (essentially a magnaflow muffler). The muffler casing is 24" long, probably 5x8, and I have a drone around 2k rpm's (3.73's and cruising at 70mph). My question is this...

What muffler/exhaust are you using on your SUV (other than stock)? Whare are your impressions on that exhaust? Do you have any sound clips?

I've heard many truck owners say that having an aerochamber gets rid of the drone. How true is this for us SUV owners? Would this help me?

Let me know!

I put a Borla cat-back on my truck many moons ago. I definitely had a little drone in the cabin at highway speeds. Since I LOVED the sound of the Borla, I opted for a soundproofing project on the interior. It solved the drone/resonance problem. I took all seats out and soundproofed the floor and sides. I used a vinyl based product that was a quarter the cost of dynamat and it worked well IMO.

I think the problem with suv's is the square box of the interior is basically a big resonance chamber and actually can amplify the sounds from the exhaust.

i had the JBA catback and liked it, but it wasnt aggressive enough.

i went to slponline.com and bought a shotgun resonator for a 2002 F body, had a peice of 13" 3"IDX3"ID stainless tubeing made up to extand the resonator to the 29" that the JBA muffler is tip to tip. removed the jba muffler and installed the resonator.

i love how it sounds- but then again i love the sound of any loud V8

the truck is a 2004 tahoe with a 4.8 and obx shorty headers on it

i did the exhaust first in anticipation of going with a radix by the end of the summer

I had the same drone problem with my tahoe. At first i had a flowmaster mufller and switched to a magnaflow , cut alot of the drone there. My exhaust was single in dual out 24 inch case magnaflow. To really cut down on the drone was to add a dynomax bullet in front of the magnaflow and I changed the tips and location of the tip exit to the rear instead of the sides. Doing these two things really made a huge difference. I also installed some dynamat from the backseat floor back to the cargo area , and now have completely got rid of any drone. Since the SUV are very different trucks( because of the second row seating and cargo area all in one) and trucks having a cab and seperate bed.

I have a single 3" exhaust with a killer exhaust note and no drone -- check them out! It's a very cool web site with video clips...

I think I used the vinyl based stuff on THIS page. It was 5+ years ago. I remember choosing vinyl over mineral/asphalt based because I had heard horror stories about lingering odors. I was not willing to drop the outrageous coin for Dynamat as I liken them to Monster Cable...pure profit margin stuff with great marketing. I did it on the complete floor and sides but not the roof.
