Default Engine/Tranny removal/installation questions

I've got to remove both the engine and the tranny when I do my swap.

I plan on getting some ramps from wal-mart to give me some added ground clearence when trying to remove the tranny. Then I was thinking about putting 3-4 square concrete bricks under the jack for the front of the truck. I plan on doing this just for the tranny removal and then lowering it back down for the engine removal.

-When removing the tranny, how much clearence is needed to get the tranny rolled out from under the truck?

-This is probably a stupid question, how do you disconnect/seperate the tranny from the driveshaft?

-Do ya'll remove the front accessory bracket and all the accessories before removing the motor?

-Where do ya'll connect the chain to? What bolts?

-I'm thinking about bolting the new motor/tranny together installing them connected at the same time. I think it would be easier to hook everything back up this way. Any pros/cons on this?

Thanks!

I pulled my engine and tranny together, and I know at least a few others who have. Can't give you a definite answer

Unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff, drop it down in back, and slide it out of the tranny tailshaft.

Yep!

I used the bolt holes on the front and rear of the heads.

That's how I did it, I think it was easier.

I installed engine and trans seperately because it looked like a pain to guide the engine and trans in. I also didn't have a chery picker to clear my truck so I was using a fork lift.

both ways will work but its not like it was hard to seperate the trans either.... 6 bolts and 3 convertor bolts and its seperated..... then drop the trans like you normaly would.....

i would recomend getting some heavy duty jackstands instead of ramps mainly because it will get you higher and you can have the wheels off which may come in handy sliding in and out from under the truck.

harbor freight has some real good stands for about 40 bux/pair, well worth it, especially when the truck is up on the ramps and the ramps look like they're gonna take a **** soon
