Default Engine swap Capabilities?

Hey im the new guy here but jw on my 89 C1500 in the future im looking to do a semi-budget engine/drivetrain build and need opinions if there possible #1 any LS1 build to 330-370hp with T-56 6 speed. #2 truck 5.3 with truck 5 speed, or T-56 6 speed. #3 6.0 with truck 5 spd...Please any knowledge on this would be great

not sure what you're asking exactly but any of those are possible, the cheapest would be a truck 5.3 with a truck 5 speed. anything with a T-56 is gonna cost more obviously and the LS1's and 6.0's are both sought after so they tend to be more expensive in many areas. going in an 89 is certainly possible but it'll be some work adapting and running wiring harnesses. your best bet would be to find a wrecked donor truck to take the engine and wiring harness from and transfer that over to your 89. check the classic trucks section, there's a few people around who've done this and you should be able to find the information on what all the project entails there.

I put a 5.3 with the truck 5 speed in a 92.If you are looking to bang some gears you are better off with the t56.I would suggest find a motor and then buy the standalone wiring harness and computer. This will make the install very easy. LS1 Swap | LS1 Conversion | EFI Conversion | Wiring Harness | Fuel Injection Conversion | EFI Kit | Standalone Wiring Harness for LS1 LS2 LS3 LS6 LS7 LS9 LSA LSX Vortec - Performance Systems Integration

I don't like to thread-Jack but it looks like this one has been dead for a few days so here goes. I see you did a 5.3 with a 5 speed in a 92. I've got a 95' 2500 2WD with a NV4500 5 speed and I would like to go with a 5.3 also. I've got a guy that can do the wiring/tuning but he's wasn't sure about the mechanical matchup for the combo.

Was yours an NV3500 or NV4500?

Did the 5.3 just bolt up to the 5 speed or did you have to do some modifications or buy some sort of adapter kit?

What year 5.3 did you use?

Any mpg figures to brag about?

I'm assuming you had a 5.7 TBI, do you feel like you gained alot of power?

^comparing a 5.7 TBI and a 5.3 LS motor isn't really even a comparison. imagine the torque off the bottom with your TBI except instead of falling on it's face it keeps pulling harder the higher the RPMs climb and expect a decent mileage improvement. the bell housing will bolt up except there's one bolt hole that doesn't exist, besides that i'm not familiar with whats needed for a manual as far as pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch etc. you're definitely better off with the NV4500 but i'd still make sure it's in good shape if you plan on running hard at all because it's a substantial power increase, not to mention the LS motors like to turn higher RPMs than the TBI motors were capable of...oh and welcome to PT.net

Thanks DR132, the transmissions definitely good, I've owned the truck since 1996 and I never abused it. It shifts smooth and still pulls good but the 5.7TBI is on its last leg.

You happen to have a thread with that swap? I'm about to do the same exact swap...I have a 92 k1500 with 350/nv3500 and am swapping in a 6.0. Good to know the nv3500 held up without beating on it

The nv3500 bolted right up to the 5.3. The 1999-2006 4.8 came with a 5 speed which had the nv3500. I had to buy the right flywheel since my 5.3 had a flexplate. Here is the flywheel I used https://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...yfp-t-308&fp=1 I had a 383 before the swap so I did lose torque and hp but it is way more reliable and it pulls right to 6000 rpm's. I also drastically improved my gas mileage from 5-9 mpg to 15-20 mpg. The best thing is just a turn of the key no matter what temp it starts and idles perfect. I also have a lunati 212/218 cam Lt headers and a NNBS intake with 8.1 injectors.

Ls1truck.com has a lot of info on these swaps.
