Was going to put the fans on my truck, do you have to have duals or can i get a larger single fan? Pep boys has hayden fans for about 70 bucks and I was going to fab a shroud out of some 1/8 aluminum, will this work properly? I know the two fans will have more area blowing on the radiator but the only turn on for very short amounts of time, so the one fan will just stay on a little longer correct? Are there any drawbacks to a single fan? I still want the extra space the efans give so I dont want to mount a fan in the stock shroud. Any suggestions?

 

Pickup some Flexalite 295's. They'll fit your stock 28" radiator. Plus Flexalite's VSC is a pretty nice controller. Also not sure if you're aware but the fans are pullers not pushers. The fans blow towards the engine not the radiator. BTW, yes, the extra space is nice!

 

I would stick with 2 fans myself. In the winter months there wouldn't be much concern for it, but later when it gets hot there would be more of an issue. The fan pulling over the drivers side of the radiator does most of the cooling. The one on the passenger side lowers coolant temp even more. In the summer, that would be necessary I would think with that engine having to dissapate the heat of moving your ~5000lbs truck.

 

Just get some ls1 fans at a junk yard. I got mine there and paid $90. This is a dual set up btw.

small improvement but worth the money. anything is better than nothin. about .1 to .2 of a sec.

 

Another vote for the LS1 fans, cheap and work great. I just installed another set on my F-150. They rock. You'll get better throttle response, slightly better MPG, and no whirring noise of a locked up clutch fan.

 

I want to fab something up out of aluminum, I guess i will look into 2 small fans.

 

yea i recommend ls1 or lt1 fans too. my friend had one 15" fan. it was ok when you are constantly driving, but get into any traffic during the summer months and you are screwed. the temps will climb pretty quick. and thats with out running your AC either.

 

If I was to get 2 14" fans what brand is most affordable and will the flexalite vsc work with other brands? I am definately going to build my own aluminum shroud so i can polish it.
