Default Electric cut-out ?

Who makes a good one and how hard are they to install yourself? or does it require welding? Thanks

Also....Is there a noticeable gain in peformance or acceleration from going through the muff and just letting it all dump out?

you lose backpressure so you most liekly will olose bottom end but gain top end, more or less depending on your application.

when i buy e cutouts i plan on going with dougsheaders brand, they are guillotine(sp) style and are less likely to leak that butterfly style e cutouts, but they arent cheap, as for doing it yourself it does require welding in a y pipe!

QTP is probably your best bet and can be found at www.thunderracing.com that is a sponsor for LS1tech. They are simple to have a muffler shop install since it's just removing a section of piping and doing two welds. But yes, it does require welding.

As for performance, it will help free up air flow, but backpressure loss will probably be noticeable unless you are making tons of horsepower. But you just can't beat that sound of wide open headers! Especially if you ever install a cam

we did a test on one here and only saw a 6 rwhp gain with a Flowmaster exhaust. The other issue is they leak, and make noise whent hey are not working right.

screw e cut out, just use a manual. those are only 25 bucks instead of the 180 for electric and the same job gets done. once you hear it undone you wont want to redo it anyways so you probably wont be opening and closing it much anyways, i leave mine open all day every day and never once has a policman turned his head. too many aftermarket exhausts are loud now anyways. no one willl know the difference

I have dual 3" manual cutouts after my header collectors... when they are open its pretty much just like running open headers. it is louder in the truck than it is outside though... it does have a dendency to turn heads around here though. here's a pic...

I got them for $25 a piece from Jegs.
