EGR, whats the point

Default EGR, whats the point

what is egr, and what does it do, can you take it off.

It's an emissions control device. It basically allows exhaust gas back into the intake track to cut back on pollutants somehow. It doesn't hurt your performance, so unless you have a reason to need to take it off, you can just leave it alone.

On my old 94 Z28, the EGR tube did not seal well against my new headers, so I blocked off the whole thing. I still passed the sniffer test too, so it must not be that critical of a component. Many newer cars (like my '05 Sierra) don't even use it as part of the emissions controls anymore.

took mine off. just didnt like the idea of exhaust being pumped through my intake.

does it do anything, or will the egr tube be like a lil mini intake

If you take it off, you have to block off where the system goes into your intake and exhaust manifolds, or else you will have one hell of an exhaust/vacuum leak problem.

i plan on using mine , but thanks i didnt know if you could just but a lil filter on the egr tube, hell i could sell lil filters, EGR bypass filters add 10-15 hp and 4-5 mpg. lol

haha no filters. you just buy/build lil blockoff plates and delete the codes.

How about a mini Tornado for the EGR tube? With that and your filter, we could sell it as the "Type R" package!

Stick a freeze plug in the intake. You dont need that crap anyway.
