Default edlebrock headers info....

well i thought that some of yall might think this might be interesting. i emailed edlebrock and asked what kind of headers i have and they said:

"if you have our y-pipe and cross over, you have what's known as our TES
headers system, which is a long tube header system. We do also offer
shorties, but they do not come with a y-pipe and cross over, they bolt
to
your existing parts."

i gained around 7 tenths with them (TES System). anyways just thought yall might think thats interesting.....

Phatchevy, you are saying that with headers and y pipe alone you gained 7 tenth's.....How much was that set up?

7 tenths!?! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I could nearly run mid/low 14s NA!

You SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE that setup, and that setup alone knocked off 7 tenths? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> I mean, thats some seriously wicked clock shaving!

I imagine if it DID knock off 7 tenths, you aren't running a 15.0 anymore correct? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

alright at one point i was running a 16.0's with programmer, flowmaster, and airade. i did several runs with it. i made many trips to the track and thats what i consistently ran. then i took it again after i did these headers and i ran 15.3's all night w/ a mixture of 15.4's. i never changed any setting with the programmer either. program settings were (93 oct, shift firmness, and 127 mph limiter). had i changed the shift points the times i imagine would have been a little bit faster, but i wasn't sure were to change the shift points to so i never messed with them.

when i got it a couple years ago i paid around $530 for the header system. i had someone install it for me so the total price came out to like $780.

i was running 15.0's consistently with more stuff added but when i did the hotchkis lowering kit my time is now 15.1 @ 91.4mph. i lost a tenth but gained almost 2mph.

i know all this is hard to swallow but think how suprised i was when i got my time slip......

I think the combo you had yeilded the 7 tenths and not the header/y-pipe alone. Had you put the header/y-pipe on with no other mods I don't feel that you would have netted those gains. Gaining 7 tenths from pullies, exhaust, intake and ECM mods is however not unheard of. Some vehicles do have better output than others but the power necessary to generate 7 tenths alone from headers is pretty large considering these motors make nearly 230-250 rwhp stock.

Mathematically:
Your truck now runs 15.0's @ ~90 mph and assuming your race weight is ~4800 lbs you would now be making around 270-275 to the wheels. That is a solid 20-40 RWHP gain from stock (25-50 @ the flywheel.)
Estimating stock performance:
Assuming you ran a 16.0 @ 85 mph and a 2.2 60'. You would have been making 230 RWHP but could stand to have run 15.8's optimally (shift points + better 60'.) Even here you could have gained 2 tenths from mods that have no effect of HP but merely what your average HP throught your run was. This would be "driver skill" ET not HP ET.
My point:
If you are honestly claiming 40 RWHP gains from a single bolt-on mod on a motor that only produces 230-270 RWHP you have claimed that you can raise engine effiecency and RWHP by 15% alone with 1 modification. Not impossible, but not from 50 state legal headers and a y-pipe.

well i do agree. i don't think that headers alone will add that much by itself, thats like adding a supercharger. maybe when i say that it took off 7 tenths it gives people the wrong impression. it's just that when i ran with the headers i ran 7 tenths better.

everything i have said is truthful. i have no reason to lie about any of this stuff. maybe temperature had something to do with this also? i'll try and dig up the time slips. i'm not sure if it the temperature would help out that much.

now i like the headers. they have done me good over the years. however i don't think the guy was right about the headers being long tube. i would say more like mid-length. eventually i'll sell these and get the arizona speed & marine headers. thats after i do everything else.
