Dynojet Dyno
#1
I've had about 10 or so pulls on a dynojet and they use the WinPEP software to evaluate the data.
Here's the question, all of mine have been smoothed 5, it is adjustable form 1-5, "smoothing" is what its called. I can see that it allows for a less erratic line, is there any other purpose? and what is the standard?

"Grippy"
The smoothing is just that.... just gets rid of the peaks and valleys (up to a point) to give you a more accurate (average) reading. I prefer 5 for smoothing, some people like 1 as it usually gives an inflated peak number that the power band can't substain. The average is 3 to 5 that I see, I have a stack of maybe a hundred to choose from so.....

Who would smooth it to 1???
Some of these are practices you might do on a strip....but on the street that's another story. These practices were more to do with posting the highest dyno numbers, and I'd seen way to many post saying I'm only getting this Crwhp. Other guys jump on saying yeah so and so makes this, something is wrong with your combo. So, they would either stay around and suck up there supposidly low numbers or worse, sell off there combos and never to be seen again. I got tired of posting, trying to help these kids with there combos explaining where their horse power in gone too, there got to be more negative posting than I could help overcome with good info. Anyway, that was years back on CZ when way to many people were just worried about dyno queens instead of actually racing them..I moved on...(well, ok I still go to the advanced section)
still see it once in a while here but not much....That is why I joined/followed the big racers on this site years ago when they came over from LS1....This is the best site overall that I'v been on...
.....and the award for best "Suck Up" goes too.......
Next dumb question..........
hehehehehehehe

Yeah that got to be a bad time for newbies back then. One or two guys would say good numbers....then 10 guys would jump on saying that sucks....on the same post. I use Dynojet/mustang numbers only for comparison of previous combos. It's especialy true with converter auto trannys.....may dyno low, but have one hell of an average hp level
The good thing around here is that I'v dynoed at 4 different Dynojets and I would say that all were within 4 hp of each other (damn accurate) for testing and tuning combos.
